  • Cover the cost of eye exams, prescription lenses, and contact lenses
  • Can be used even if you don’t have vision insurance
  • All FSA funds are available at the start of the year
  • FSA funds usually expire at the end of the year

HSA

  • Cover the cost of eye exams, prescription lenses, and contact lenses
  • Can be used even if you don’t have vision insurance
  • HSA funds are accrued throughout the year
  • HSA funds never expire and can be rolled over

No. Non-prescription eyewear is generally not eligible for purchase with an FSA or HSA. If your doctor prescribes non-prescription sunglasses, they may be covered under your FSA or HSA. In this case, you would need a note or prescription from your doctor.

If your doctor prescribes blue light glasses, FSA or HSA will cover them.

No! As long as you have the funds, you can buy as much prescription eyewear as necessary.
