Sunglasses Fashion Trends of 2009
Filed Under Brand Wave, Designer Sunglasses, Eyewear Knowledge, Fun with Eyewear
As Heidi Klum of Project Runway often says, “One day you’re in, and the next you’re out.” In eyewear fashion that stands true. While some fashion trends can stand the test of time, like Ray Ban aviators, others are a flash in the pan. Here are the designs that are in this season.
Larger-than-life designs are at the top of the eyewear trend list for 2009. The larger the lenses the better the fashion, of late. The idea is to get, as close as possible, to the anime look made popular in Japan. These large sunglasses stimulate the bulging eyes of the anime dolls, and their enormous size decreases the size of the nose and mouth, proportionally, and elongates the chin to give a triangle look drawing focus to the eyes.
Bold colors are also in high demand this season with reds and bright yellows as the favorites. Make a splash with your large eyewear by buying red or yellow, or sticking to the safer black or white designs. Accessories outside of eyewear are also feeling this trend as bags, shoes and jewelry in bold colors emerged in the Milan fashion week.
Simplicity is key this season, steer clear of intricate designs or gold, silver or gemstone inlays. What is hot right now is clean lines in bold colors. This trend puts plastic above metal frames. Avoid frilly designs and stick to clean, clear and simple lay outs that favor boldness over subtlety.
Gradient lenses are back in style, a look made famous by Ray Ban and Dior. Gradient lenses in any color add to the anime look but also add the tinted protection and coverage the wearer needs.
