Fashion From Mad Men
Filed Under Authenticity, Brand Wave, Celebrity Watch, Designer Sunglasses, Fun with Eyewear | View Comments
Mad Men, the hit HBO series about 1960’s advertising men in New York, has been a huge success, and with it the surge in retro fashion and vintage eyewear and sunglasses.
Betty Drapper, played by January Jones, looks dashing in retro Ray Ban sunglasses. She pulls of the 1960s lifestyle and fashion without batting an eye. Her attention to detail with her wardrobe and mannerisms makes the roll one she was literally born to fill. Aside from the fact that she is wearing Ray Bans, we think the look is dashing. To get a similar look in 2010 you’d have to ditch the generic sunglasses and be a bit creative. We’re thinking a sexy pair of retro Prada sunglasses would update the look enough to make it manageable. You can’t walk around, after all, in 2010 wearing horn rimmed glasses unless you are a villain from Heroes. With a bit of a modern update, the Betty Drapper look could be one that could work in this modern and more fashion-friendly age.
But Betty Drapper isn’t the only one who pulls off the 1960s look. Don Drapper is another Ray Ban fanatic. Whenever outdoors, especially in season three, he looks dashing and time-appropriate in multi-colored Ray Bans and checkered shirts. To get the Drapper look, skip the Ray Bans and head for the Serengeti shop. These are a sexier, more up-to-date look that transcends any wardrobe making it more casual, cool and carefree. Add to that a leather jacked, denim jeans and a checkered shirt and you have the modern Don Drapper look one appropriate for 2010.

Business Sunglasses and Eyeglasses

If you wear glasses and work at an office, then your look may be fitting a certain undesirable fashion statement (unless you are going for the nerd look). We don’t want you looking like Dilbert or any random guy in a cubicle. We want to give you a fashionable edge. Think you can’t pull of Giorgio Armani?—think again! With a little work, you can take your look from boring office-dwelling geek to dorky chic, and trust me there is a difference. Here’s how to get the most out of the geek look without getting swept under the carpet as a cliché.
Second, you can pull of the dorky office look and make it cool by embracing it. Don’t try to hide what you are. If you are an athlete, wear a baseball cap. If you are a geek, then a pocket protector and calculator watch are cute. Don’t’ shy away from what you are or what you enjoy at work, that is one surefire way to alienate yourself.
Finally, when trying to revamp your wardrobe get a few items that are not necessary but are definitely fun. If you wouldn’t normally spend money on a nice belt than now is the time to get a fun and ‘you’ belt that you’ll enjoy wearing and showing off. Your clothing is a billboard for who you are, don’t hide the facts!

Ari Gold Sunglasses in Entourage
Filed Under Authenticity, Brand Wave, Celebrity Watch, Fun with Eyewear | View Comments
Ari Gold owns Hollywood—at least in the hit HBO T.V series Entourage, where his agency controls the city’s hottest stars. And what does the hottest man in Hollywood wear? Answer – Prada PR55HS sunglasses, a sexy and sleek look that only Jeremy Piven could pull off with such confidence and charm.
If, for some odd reason, you idolize Ari Gold and what to get the same look, here is how to go about it. First, start with the sunglasses. You’ll need to have the latest and greatest, most modern look you can find. You want something to attract attention to the fact that you know something about fashion. Second, you’ll want to get fitted shirts, but not in the traditional white or baby blue. No, you need to go after those less common colors like mauve, salmon and eggplant, then find ties that match in an overly obvious way then toss on a suit that makes the entire outfit pop and look like you are an extra on a sci-fi set. Then, bam! You have the Ari Gold look!

Formatting your Fashion

Winter will be upon us before we are fully prepared, as transpires yearly. We prepare all year for the fun and sun of summer and then lag when planning for the cold, grey days of winter. This year, reformat your fashion to inspire warmth and color rather than build on the bleak and drab colors of the season. Don’t wear black Prada sunglasses, which in a stark background of leafless trees and sunless days could seem cold and empty. Instead, spice up the season with color and flare. Grab a hot pair of Ed Hardy sunglasses. You’ll surprise and thrill your friends and by passers on the street. Color is a necessity and even more so in winter, not less. While everyone else is trying to mimic the season with auburns, browns, blacks and grays, you’ll be standing out and getting attention with bold colors, designs and a new way of dealing with the starkness of winter. Ed Hardy is not only a great designer with innovative, bright and vibrant designs, but his imagery is bold enough to attract more than a second look, and alive enough to be in style months after winter’s thaw. The versatility of Ed Hardy sunglasses is apparent even before you purchase and trial the designs.
You could continue on in your normal way, with dark eyewear and a bleak, season-fitting fashion sense, or you could format your fashion to make a statement and defy the seasons.

Blondes Have More Fun
Filed Under Authenticity, Brand Wave, Fun with Eyewear, Uncategorized | View Comments

They say blondes have more fun, and with beautiful, fun-loving blondes in most advertising campaigns it surely appears that statement is true. Dolce and Gabbana are notorious for their use of blondes, as is Prada, Gucci and Dior. Its simply a fact that blondes in ad campaigns sell more product that their brunette counterparts. Blondes can be sexy, but it is always in a stunning and charming way whereas brunettes always look a bit more serious or edgy, perhaps even more lusty. If you imagine for a second that the fashion industry hasn’t spent thousands on research finding out exactly what a blonde verses a brunette conveys to the fashion clientele you’d be mistaken!
So, is fashion geared towards blondes then as well? It is hard to say, but when you see a beautiful blonde there is a fair chance she is dressed more fashionably than an equally beautiful brunette… or at least perhaps you notice her beauty more because of the glistening golden locks. It may not be fair, but that is why hair dye was invented– to even the odds and beat mother nature at her own cruel game.
When it comes to real fashion and style, any woman of any hair, skin and eye color can be stunning, cosmopolitan and sexy, if they use fashion wisely and work with what they have in terms of coloring and texture. For example, blondes may be so attractive to most men because they can wear virtually anything and look good. Brunettes have to work a bit harder, and their faces seem to glow and shine in some colors and look placid in others. Women with dark skin have the natural good looks made even more beautiful with metals like silver and gold, and with textured fabrics– all looks paler skinned people find hard to pull off.

Long-term Healthy Skin
Filed Under Authenticity, Designer Sunglasses, Fun with Eyewear | View Comments
Healthy skin stems from a healthy diet, good hygiene and balanced hormones. But, to go a step beyond and have fantastic skin, you’ll need to think about epidermis health on a daily basis and develop habits that result in long-term healthy skin. For example, wearing large sunglasses than cover your eyes and the area prone to wrinkles around your eyes (crow’s feet, and lower brow wrinkles) is a good secondary measure. Year-round, you’ll need to wear sunglasses to keep your face from prematurely wrinkling, and this is naturally in addition to sunscreen and lotion.
Designer eyewear is almost essential to skin health. Why designer, you ask? Well, you want high-quality, you want the maximum UV protection, and you want an item you care about so you don’t lose or mistreat it. Designer eyewear covers all of those categories, and more. You can get extra coatings for your sunglasses, like anti-scratch, anti-fog and anti-moisture, which keeps them on your face longer and thus protecting you longer. You’ll also want something that looks fantastic, and fits your personality. Since your face is the first thing people notice about you and how they distinguish you from anyone else, you’ll want to invest in high-quality sunglasses so you are not putting a cheap foot forward when you initially meet someone new.
Finally, for healthy skin year-round, you’ll want to invest in make-up that is all-natural, nonabrasive and chemical free, as well as all-natural lotions and night creams. In the long-run, you’ll thank yourself for not smearing chemical-based products on your face every day.

Sex Appeal versus Intellectual Flare
Filed Under Brand Wave, Designer Eyeglasses, Fun with Eyewear | View Comments
Why can’t we have both? I want to have my cake and eat it too, otherwise what is the point of being a woman! Think about the age-old crisis. Should I dress sexy and get attention, or dress conservatively and get respect? Prada, or Wal-Mart brand clothing and accessories? Despite what you may be saying right now, you know I’m right—you’ve thought about the same question, if not on a smaller or more subtle scale. But, in the world of fashion it IS possible to have both! You can be alluring, sexy, mysterious, intellectual and fun all in one wardrobe, all at once, without looking like a split-personality nut job.
Think about fashion from the head down. Instead of wearing you hair parted in the middle or pulled back into a tight bun or pony-tail, think about getting sexy layers or adding a few simple clips to keep your hair away from your eyes. Long hair is sexy to men, and it will add a new element to your look without compromising anything. Next, think about your make-up regime and then consider look in the mirror a long time. Play around and see what works to give you a subtle push towards sex appeal, like a bit of blush or toner, or a slightly more scarlet tone of lipstick.
All you need after your mini-makeover is a bit of confidence. Walk with confidence and your sex appeal naturally increases. Are you really compromising your intellect with these minor tips? You’ll be surprised what it will do to your mood and self image to have a few small changes here and there result in an overall feeling of power and, having your cake too.

Attention-Grabbing Fashion

No one wants to feel like they blend into the background. It is a horrible feeling to see a picture of yourself in a group and realize no one will give you a second glance. This year, turn that all around with fashion! Try a pair of flashy Alexander McQueen sunglasses to give yourself a reason to receive a second glance. Your personality is, no doubt, wonderful and all you need to do is get the initial interest through fashion and people will love you!
Getting noticed is no easy feat in America, especially with so many people focused on fashion and with so many new trends emerging on a season by season basis. To keep yourself in the limelight, you have to do a lot of work. To get yourself the center of attention, you have to be better than the best—which in some places (aheem… Hollywood) — can be nearly impossible!) To achieve the impossible, you have to think clearly all the time and keep a tight reign on your lifestyle and habits. A sexy body goes a long way, so morning and evening exercises are a must. High fashion is an option only if you can pull off the attitude, otherwise you have to find your own fashion niche, like the edgy jock or the sexy princess. One clear way to get your identity under wraps is to focus on what kind of image you want to represent and then go about achieving it through fashion. The attitude will follow. Buy those Prada sunglasses and handbag you’ve craved and suddenly your confidence and sexiness will skyrocket.
