Winter Shades

Sunglasses in winter seems like an illogical fashion choice, like wearing sunglasses indoors, but believe it or not there are great reasons for both activities. Rappers and other musicians wear sunglasses inside to block some of the harsh glare from stage lights and the constant flash of photography. Not so silly, after all. And with darker shades like the Carrera men’s shades or the dark Prada and Dior that women celebrities wear on stage, pros are sure to keep their eyes protected. In winter, the glare is harsher, shade is less available, and the sun reflects off snow and ice to extremely damaging results. Sunglasses indoors and in winter is, in the end, a smart choice. So join the celebrities and slip into your Serengeti sunglasses all winter.

Here are a few tips to picking your winter shades. First, you’ll want to go a bit darker than normal with the lens tinting. We’re talking dark brown to black. Especially in winter. If you can get polarized lenses on your glasses so you don’t forget them when you go outdoors that’s smart, but one of the problems in winter is peripheral glare, so form-fitting or wrap-around sunglasses are actually the best bet for winter. We’re talking huge Carreras or something sporty and snug, like your Nike or Adidas.

Second, you’ll want a material that doesn’t get too cold. Plastic is better for holding your warmth to your face than metal would be. Frames like Ray Bans or Serengetti shades may not be the best choice, for one because of gradient or lighting tinting, but also because of the thin metal frames. You’re not getting much in the way of coverage for your face or keeping yourself warm in the coldest months unless you go big, go thick and go plastic.

You’ll want sunglasses that increase contrast (so you can see more clearly when waves are break and see past the surface hues into the sea beyond). You’ll also want sunglasses that are snug and tight enough not to slip off on a rocky boat, or to be distracting from your adventure. You’ll also want to make sure they can be removed quickly, and that they don’t compress your skull by being too snug.

One of the most important things to remember with water sports is to protect yourself from the sun. You’ll find that sunburn is one of the more risky aspects of water sports. You don’t want your eyes to be strained from squinting all day on the surface and then find that you don’t have the energy or visual acuity to sustain a long dive underwater. You’ll also want to protect your skin. The sun’s rays even go under water, so without sunscreen you’ll find you’ll be slightly burnt even if you stay submerged.

Other great brands for seafaring sunglasses include Bolle (for women) and Serengeti for men. You’ll need to keep in mind that these are not the best brands for extreme sports and adventures, but these are for yachting, canoeing or other more casual water activities.

Scariest Glasses Imaginable

Sometimes fashion fails. And fails horribly. We’re talking 1980s fashion flops and turn of the century frilly shirts on men right down to the purple shoe craze of the Victorian era. Fashion should make people look good, not scary or downright horrible. Spend a bit of time researching Versace and you’ll see great designs, but some real flops, too. And that’s part of the fashion game- finding out what doesn’t work. And for that, we’re thankful that some of the highest-end designer fashion labels are willing to push the limits of fashion in search of new forms of beauty. Sometimes the looks are scary, sometimes they work, but we’re happy there are still innovators out there.

When we think of scary glasses we’re thinking of those large, shapeless glasses of the ‘80s that everyone wore, or in some cases the large glasses that grandma still wears. These don’t flatter anyone, and it’s strange that these disgusting-looking glasses are still manufactured. Everyone can be sexy and beautiful, from the elderly right down to models in their early twenties. Why some elderly give up on fashion is beyond us. We think there are plenty of age-appropriate styles for grandparents that wont’ cover have of their face in a scary reflection of light and shadows. So, the scariest glasses are the no-name shapeless face covers of the ‘80s.

Fendi is currently exploring new color combinations and new shapes for late summer that are innovative and bold without crossing the line into scary. Still, these looks aren’t for everyone and Fendi is not likely to attract a huge fan following with these kinds of fashion investments in the future.

Corporate Eyeglasses

Trying to look sexy and flawless without looking too sexy in a suit isn’t easy. You don’t want to look overly sexual at the office, but it’s fine to look attractive. One of the best ways to do this is to play up or down any outfit with flashy accessories. Sunglasses are one of the best accessories for making yourself either more professional or playing down the sex appeal and making a look more professional. Wearing sexy sunglasses to work is only appropriate if you are going to slip out of them once you arrive at the office, or if you are an intern with no prospect of getting a full time job with the company after you graduate. These are the two options, but you can also wear innovative or slightly creative shades if you wear a more bland wardrobe. Don’t be too flashy with your eyeglasses if you wear loud colors or loud jewelry.

Simple Sunglasses

Not so many sunglasses are simple and clean-lined enough for those who are shy. Shy folks think sunglasses are an extravagant accessory, something posers and rock stars wear. And yet, on sunny days you just have to wear them. So, what is the simplest band that won’t have any hidden connotations or make you look like you are trying too hard. Well, the first brand that comes to mind is Serengeti for men, and Bolle for women. These two brands are sporty and casual without jumping into the line of high fashion or filling up with useless accessories and technologies.

Bolle isn’t an expensive brand, either, making it one of the more practical sunglasses brands for women. And just because it is affordable doesn’t mean it is lower quality, Bolle is still considered a designer brand. And you don’t have to be sporty to look great in them. Your typical librarian will look just at home as a jogger or fan of skydiving. They are just simple shades with a logical design.

For men, Serengeti is known as the driving sunglasses brand, and yet they are so much more useful than just driving shades. They are casual and clean-lined, without offering too much in the way of flare or extravagance, and yet they are elegant and simple. For men who want something nice, simple and clean this is the brand for you. They look as great with a suit as they do on a man in swim trunks, and they are a fantastically diverse design.

Everyone wants to spend a day as royalty. To wake up to breakfast in bed with a servant reading the newspaper in a sultry, Anthony Hopkins voice. To have slippers so fluffy they feel like walking on air, and to have a wardrobe of all the best designer labels like Dior, Prada, Versace and Serengeti. To stroll into every room and have music start or stop at a glance, and to sit on chairs that feel like they were molded to your form. Alas, this isn’t a likely scenario for most.

Most of us struggle to have a wardrobe that is classy without breaking the piggy bank. We scour the racks for deals and discounts so we can look like we spent more then we did. We work hard for our cash and we can’t afford to spend it on things that are not necessities. Most of us will never know what its like to open the closet and see items we’ve never worn or, for that matter, even want to wear.

But beauty and high-class charm can’t be bought. You are beautiful and charming based on your personality and your heart. People are attracted to warmth, and they seek comfort from friendly people. Some of the wealthiest and most high class people are annoying to be around, and thus not beautiful. Finding beauty is as simple for a sweet person and smiling into the mirror. You don’t need to have an entirely high-end wardrobe, just pick out a few key accessories to spend your money on and you’ll start looking like a million bucks. Designer glasses are a great key accessory to make you look great- MiuMiu are a great brand for this for women and Police for men.

Finding your Personality in Accessories

Many people think that you can have an identity that is separate from your outside appearance, but that just isn’t the case. If you want people to have a specific opinion about you then you have to cultivate that look. For example, wearing Prada sunglasses if you are a grunge queen probably isn’t the best move. You can’t ignore fashion just because you don’t like it, you still have to come up with a look for yourself and then figure out how to make it work. For example, people who don’t like fashion usually are trying really hard to look like they don’t care but even that comes across with a specific set of clothing and accessories.

But finding a look that works for you is probably much harder than you think. Sure, you know yourself, what you want and what you dream, but what should that look like? You don’t want to look like a cliché, you just want to express yourself and try not to give the wrong impression.

Another thing to keep in mind is not to try too hard. For example if you are a sports lover you probably shouldn’t use fashion to push the sporty image as people will likely already know that about you. Don’t get Nike glasses in this case, get Bolle, which is a slightly less sporty but more fashionable look and one that has a touch of high fashion. At the same time, if you are a very girly girl, don’t get pink sunglasses but use this accessory to alter your image slightly to a more rough, rugged look that adds a bit of contradiction to your wardrobe.

Education and Glasses

Perhaps there is no correlation between poor sight and higher education, but it does seem that there are a great number of well-educated people who wear glasses. Some of them are sexy nerd glasses, like the chic Prada nerd glasses that are making such a splash with blonde librarians around the US. Still, they do add a certain dignified look to any wardrobe.

The correlation may be weak, but it is there. Looking at computer screens all day long every day is a sure way to damage your eyes and cause you to need glasses in the long-run. Its impossible to protect your eyes from the strain of looking at light all day, and your illuminated computer screen is like looking at a dim light bulb all day long.

If you wear glasses and you hate it, join the club. There are some ways to deal with this. One of the best ways is to buy glasses that you love, glasses that are brilliant on your face and add sex appeal and mystique rather than the nerdy chic look. Its hard to find a look that works for you if you wear glasses that you hate because you’ll always look uncomfortable. Confidence is sexy, and without it you’ll come across as less than appealing. So, make sure they are glasses that you love.

Second, don’t buy glasses that are overly nerdy or geeky if you might not be able to come across as confident while wearing them. This can be an issue for actual nerds and geeks, who don’t have any fashion sense, but its also possible to branch out and try something new without going so far as to looking like you are wearing something you hate.

The Ultimate Summer Color Palate

Summer is the ideal season for branching out and trying new colors and looks. It is a creative season, where people are more prone to wear flamboyant looks and more likely to applaud new ideas and new designs. If you want to try new things, summer is the right season, but there are still color palate ideas that are solid in summer. For example, you see many people wearing brighter Dior sunglasses in summer than they would ever wear in winter or fall.

White is one of the best colors for summer. It doesn’t attract heat, and it brings a touch of air to any outfit. Even dark clothing is lightened up when paired with white sunglasses, and although men need to be careful with white shades lest they look like they are trying to be a pimp, women can pull of the look with ease.

Avoid bold colors like red, black, green and blue and opt for pastels or variations on these colors for summer. Keep in mind that winter is when the jewel tones come out so you don’t want to use those hues yet. Your best bet for summer is to think of nature and copy it, lighter colors, more light and less darkness, depth and shadow.

In terms of sunglasses that are perfect for summer, think of girly and fragile designs by Dior for great intricate looks that add a lot to any outfit. You can also go with Prada (which has always been more of a fall-winter designer) but make sure you go after a pair of sunglasses that are not black.
