us0626.JPGEvery busy mother knows that their children watch their every move. While you may be running around catering your children to sports practice, music practice and school, be aware that they see what you eat, how you talk and how you dress. They also learn life-long habits from their mother, including how they will care for their hygiene in the future. A busy mom should make time to take care of her eyes by ensuring she wears sunglasses when outdoors and proper eyewear when reading or, if near-sighted, when watch TV or playing outside, and should explain to her children the necessity of protecting their eyes.

Spending money on high-quality eyewear that you love will show your children how important their vision is by demonstrating how important it is to you. Discouraging them from looking at the sun or other bright lights, encouraging the use of hats, sunglasses, sunscreen and other hygienic outdoor equipment will also help instill lifelong habits.

In addition to caring for your own eyes and skin, good mothers do likewise for their children in fun and creative ways. Buy your children sunglasses that protect their eyes rather than look adorable but lack UV protection. Much of a person’s eye damage later in life was caused in their youth. Many designers have exclusive children’s lines that are durable, reliable and focus on child-friendly fashion.

Finally, mothers should devise a system for their children that becomes routine. When going outside have every child’s (and your own) eyewear and hat by the door in individually marked baskets. Make sure each child takes their hat and sunglasses every time they leave the house and puts them back when they enter the home. This will keep children from misplacing them and instill lifelong habits of organization for everyday items.
