Known as the King of Pop and guru of Ray Ban fashion, as well as the first African American to bridge the gap between black and white music to a nation-wide and indeed universal sound, Michael Jackson was the top pop icon of the late 20th century. His 1982 album Thriller remains the best-selling album of all time, with songs like Billy-Jean, Bad, and Off the Wall close behind. Tragically, Michel Jackson died on the 25th of June, leaving a legacy of amazing music, innovative fashion and unparalleled intrigue.
Michael Jackson had a style all his own, with a larger-than-life image Jackson sought to make himself a bridge between pop and modernity through fashion and his always exotic music videos. Spending thousands on each video and hundreds on each costume, Jackson became known for his spending just as much as for his amazing earning potential. A perfectionist at heart, he wanted each video to tell a story, and used fashion to underline his messages.
Ray Ban Aviators were his favorite brand of sunglasses in later life, while in his youth he favored Ray Ban Wayfarers. Both designs, with pitch black lenses and lightweight frames, helped Jackson avoid the light that caused his fragile skin irritation. Meanwhile, their lightweight frames were necessary because his nose, after several rhinoplasty surgeries, could not withstand weight. Jackson gave Ray Ban a whole new image as cool for all communities and at the center of the music industry. Musicians today still pay homage to the fashion trend he started by wearing Ray Bans on and off stage.
