The Academy Awards ceremony this year revealed a lot of new information fashion fans will gobble up. Robert Downey Jr., for example, showed up in Oliver Peoples Sheldrake glasses with custom blue lenses to deliver his anticipated announcing performance. Dressed in the wacky yet fashionable designs we’ve come to expect and love on Robert, we were a bit surprised by how uncompromisingly he attempted the blue look, complete with tinted shades, bowtie and arm-candy girlfriend in a silver blue dress to match.

Robert Downey Jr. wasn’t the only one rocking blue at this year’s event. Mo’Nique and her hubby Sidney Hicks showed up as a similar blue-tinted duo. Mo’Nique, who won best supporting actress, looked lush in a floor-length blue gown while Sidney rocked Marc Jacobs frames with blue tinting. Mo’Nique is herself a fashionable icon in Hollywood, she and Queen Lativa prove that girls with curves can be just as sexy as their rail-thin counterparts.

These were not the only stars to wear their shades indoors, but they were the two most unique in terms of pushing the envelope on eyewear fashion. From Robert Downey Jr. we expect a certain flamboyant flare with fashion. His appearances after Iron Man, and Sherlock Holmes were fashionably on par with Johnny Depp – something no leading male actor has been able to touch in at least a decade. Depp is the king of forward male fashion, retro eyewear, fun hats and snazzy jackets. Robert now dominates the eyewear and shoe departments, and is going to give Depp a run for his money this year.

Ever wonder if the ‘it girls’ are wearing the same Dior shades you are? Here is what the hottest women in Hollywood are currently wearing, and why it works so well for them…or why it doesn’t!

Lindsey Lohan has a huge collection of fashionable and designer eyewear, but most recently she has been donning a very specific look that works for her – round, large glasses with thin frames and gradient lenses. She was seen in Ray Bans recently (seen here) ad well as Robert Cavalli RC 530S –Viola shades.

Kim Kardashian loves Tom Ford sunglasses. For some reason this Hollywood hottie has the misguided notion that oversized glasses look good on her long, thin face. She wore the Tom Ford Alessandra style in public and it was a flop. Oversized glasses don’t look good on thin faces. Some stars have fashion sense and some stars don’t – at least when it comes to eyewear Kim is proving she is no match to the more permanent staples in the female Hollywood elite, like Lohan and Garner.

Jennifer Garner has always had a very proper wardrobe of conservative styles, thus it is no surprise that she wears Ralph Lauren sunglasses, as they are a low-risk look that works on almost any face shape. She has the RL 8049 shades that are not round and not square, and thus not worthy of any fashion highs or lows. The bronze color matches her skin and hair and gives her the librarian look we come to expect from Garner.

When was the last time you saw the infamous Paris Hilton in the limelight, flashing her goods or drinking herself into a stupor in public? Recently, she has cleaned up her image, wearing less revealing clothing (while still designer Gucci and Prada, it is more conservative). She has not been filming any night vision pornography, nor acting in any lousy horror films. She even wrote a book, and is following the lead of her purse-designing sister by taking another look at the fashion industry as a business interest rather than a novel fad. So, is Paris Hilton reigning in her wild side?

We’ve seen Hilton recently in attire that a sexy but conservative politician’s wife would wear on campaign. Her sex appeal is no less apparent, but she has stopped flashing obscure body parts at the camera while stumbling out of her limo in a skirt that could better be described as a belt. While she used to wear oodles of make up and slather her hair in grime, she has recently taken to a more natural look, with limited makeup (still keeping her signature dark eye make up, however) and fewer push-up bras and 2” heels. She is the picture of a modern, fashionable woman, and looks to be priming herself for her inheritance. As her sister has shown, not all heiresses need to be wild, crazy blondes without political, cultural or moral opinions or any stake in their own integrity or character. Indeed, Paris has been grooming this new image for several months, something that may have been brought on by the lifestyle change her longtime friend Nicole Richie underwent, as well as the end of The Simple Life and the impending launch of My New Best Friend.

Millions of Americans were waiting eagerly and patiently in their living rooms to see Olympian and Oakley fan Shaun White snowboard the halfpipe and earn the reputation that had, for so long, been espoused on TV. In the Olympics already Americans had seen several titans fall.

His first run was spectacular, with seemingly fearless determination he shot high into the air before landing gracefully on the pipe and completing several back-to-back spins. It was an amazing run, but it was not the extravaganza we had all been waiting for. Nevertheless, he earned a score of 46.8, the highest on any first run.

As his fallen comrades completed their second runs, it became obvious that Shuan had won the gold without even running his second attempt. Atop the halfpipe he shared a joyous, if not overly zealous moment with his coach, exclaiming, “should I just go right down the middle?” Shaun had more to prove, he wanted to erase all doubt and truly earn everyone’s respect and awe. But it was going to be risky. If he attempted something and fell, he would still win gold but could endanger his reputation. He pushed off the starting line and again shot so far into the sky on his first jump that people held their breath for a safe return to orbit. Landing his first three jumps, he shot high into the air on his fourth and did what no other snowboarder on the planet can do – a Double McTwist 1260, nicknamed the Tomahawk, earning wild cheers and a 48.4 score, widening his victory and thrilling spectators around the country.

This year there was added pressure to our already stressed athletes. With blinding snow and fog storms atop Whistler Mountain, goggle choice was an incredibly important aspect of these athletes make it or break it events. Star athletes like Lindsey and Shaun choose Oakley goggles, and for a reason. Dark tinted or orange tinted goggle lenses increase contrast, for these athletes that means precious fractions of a second more to respond to changes in the course before them, like tiny ripples in the snow or ice. In events where speed is important and reaction times have to be milliseconds fast, the tint of the goggles matters more than you can imagine.

Oakley creates high quality, top-of-the-line goggles that even the pros don’t argue with. Shaun White is even working with Oakley on a line of goggles with special designs to hit the market soon that are specific for snowboarders rather than skiers. Meanwhile, Lindsey’s Oakley goggles helped her see upcoming bumps in the snow on her snowboarding runs.

While performing at the top of one’s game is the goal at the Olympics, the dream can’t come true for everyone. Sadly, Lindsey Jacobellis broke American hearts when she floundered out of the snowboarding downhill race mere seconds into it. All bets were on the young, blonde American to bring home the gold, something she only narrowly missed 4 years ago. But with US hearts broken by the lady’s misfortune, we’re left wondering a bit about how amazing our stars looked both on and off the slopes. Is it just me, or are this year’s Olympians incredibly fashionable, sexy and personable? For people who spend much of their time secluded in training centers around the globe, this year’s Olympians like Lindsey Jacobellis, Shaun White and Lindsey Vonn are just too adorable to look away from!
