Truly Masculine Eyewear
Filed Under Designer Sunglasses | View Comments
For the man’s man, there is nothing more sexy than Ray Ban sunglasses. This is a scientific fact has been recorded since the dawn of the now famous eyewear gaint. Think about Maverick w
ithout his Aviators—it just doesn’t work! Think about Risky Business without the sunglasses-minus-pants scene. Imagine the Terminator without his eyewear. None of it works without Ray Ban! The only thing the Brawny man was missing was a great pair of eyewear, if he had been wearing Ray Bans perhaps things would have turned out better for the logger turned supermodel. We’ve firmly established Ray Bans as the most sexy, seductive and classy sunglasses for men.
But, let’s face it, you cannot survive on Ray Bans alone. It is 2010, and while Top Gun is really cool, there are new adaptations on the classic bad boy style Tom Cruise exuded in that epic film. For example, the brown leather jacket needs and update and that faux fur really needs to go! We can keep the button-down shirt, but let’s add some color to it and update his accessories. If the Maverick from Top Gun walked into a California bar today he would be smacked for his fashion choices, but with upgrades he could keep the same undertones and look 2010 delicious! Police sunglasses are the Ray Bans of today. Maverick could use a pair of these sexy sunglasses as well as a Police watch, wallet and belt. Add these final accessory touches and the new Maverick will be picking up ladies at quicker-than-ever speeds.

Christmas is nay but a few days away, and with last minute shopping galore here are a few tips on what to stuff in that loved one’s stocking this year that will make it more than a sock full of trinkets.
Sunglasses – Men love eyewear. With movies like Terminator making eyewear seem a necessary accessory for any macho man, you are sure to please with a pair of updated Ray Ban Aviators or Police brand modern sex appeal frames.
Belts – Men always need new belts. This is just a fact of life. They go through them on a yearly basis, not to mention, the belt needs to match their shoes and wallet in order to really have that pulled together look. This brings me to idea #3.
Wallets – As stated, they should match the shoes and belt or else act as a real conversation starter. Usually leather is the best way to go, in brown or black so his chances of matching it to an outfit are greater. This season, however, plaid is in for men, so that opens a whole new door for your man’s wardrobe.
Gift cards – If you cannot decide on which of the above fashion accessories to dress up your man with, get him a gift card to do his own shopping- heavily supervised of course. Gift cards for shopping for sunglasses online are available, or you can help him decide by picking out your frames online at a store like www.smartbuyglasses.com and then purchasing them for him, which is a sweet thing to do.

Taking Cold Weather Seriously
Filed Under Eyewear Knowledge | View Comments
Every year thousands of people die in America from hypothermia related to a lack of respect for the weather, nature, or simply poor planning when going outdoors. Here is how to take cold weather seriously to avoid joining this statistic.
First, protect your skin and eyes. Remember that most of your body heat leaves the body from your head, making a hat one of your most important accessories.Second, people lost in the wild suffer from extreme damage and sometimes blindness because winter is the worst season for your eyes. Dry weather combined with reflected light from snow or ice causes your eyes to burn (like an ant under a magnifying glass) and because it is dry, your eye can feel itchy when really it is burning slowly in your socket. You can protect against this by wearing sunglasses outdoors in winter, models by Oakley and Nike are especially effective in extreme cold, though most sunglasses can withstand extreme temperature changes. Finally, most sufferers of frostbite lose their fingers and toes, making gloves and serious socks and boots an outdoor must.
When going outdoors, here is a basic list of what you’ll need and why in order to escape hypothermia, vision loss or bodily damage by frostbite. You will need a hat to keep in body warmth, sunglasses to protect your eyes, and chap stick for your lips and lotion for your face (before going out so it doesn’t freeze to your face). A scarf will protect your throat and upper chest, keeping your lungs warmer to offset your inner body temperature dropping. A warm jacket and pants will also protect your insides while extremely warm gloves and socks are essential to avoiding frostbite.
Respect cold weather, plan ahead and enjoy the winter wonderland this season!

A Farewell to Socialite Casey Johnson
Filed Under Celebrity Watch, Designer Sunglasses | View Comments
Socialite and heiress to the Johnson & Johnson fortune Casey Johnson passed away on December 29th in her home. With startlingly good fashion sense (rivaling friend Paris even!) like her pairing of Versace clothing with Prada eyewear, and a fun personality used to the limelight, Casey will be missed.
Casey began life with a silver spoon in her mouth, but soon discovered that she was diabetic. Her father, Robert Wood Johnson, dedicated much of his early fatherhood to helping find a cure for the disease that afflicted his daughter. While not cure for diabetes yet exists, great headway has been made in coping with the disease. Her father and her co-wrote a book on dealing with diabetes when she was 14, no small feat for a youngster, and a demonstration that Casey was more than just a socialite and heiress.
Though she was playmates with Paris and Nicky Hilton, and Nicole Riche, Casey managed to remain a bit more responsible than her friends. She did have her moments in the spotlight, but overall remained a foundation unto herself.
She adopted a young girl from Kazakhstan in 2007 named Ava, whom she cared for lovingly. In addition, Casey was an outspoken supporter of homosexuality.
As a lesbian, she was often on the front pages as an unofficial spokesman for her way of life. Casey and her bisexual partner Tila Tequila were engaged on December 9th, 2009, just mere days before her death on the 29th. While police claim the death appeared natural, we await the release of toxicology reports.

Hayden panettiere is known for her amazing performances in films like I love You Beth Cooper, and the TV show Heroes, and the impending 2010 release Alpha and Omega, but many of us know her for her fashion sense, which is unparalleled for her age and status in Hollywood. With classic features, stunning skills and a great sense of fashion, she is sure to be someone that we’ll see performing at high levels long into the future. Let’s take a look at her amazing fashion sense over the past year.
Ray Ban 3025 model sunglasses were a favorite of hers in 2009, a stunning and provocative look that helps keep Hayden living on the edge of fashion and childhood. The Clubmaster 3016 model is another favorite of Hayden’s, a look she helped to popularize in 2009 among young female actresses across Hollywood. The RB 3362, RB 2113 and RB 4087 model sunglasses are all seemingly secondary to the Wayfarer and Clubmaster looks an actress like Hayden has the looks and talent to pull off, yet she wears them to show her diversity and –character talent.
Aside from her affinity for Ray Bans, Hayden has a soft spot for two other fashion houses when it comes to eyewear. She loves YSL sunglasses, especially the YSL 6238 model that she helped to popularize. While many women are not fond of wearing high-performance athletic gear as fashion statements, Hayden does not shy away from making the look amazing by combining it with high fashion and classic Hollywood talent. Four Ways to Stay Fashion Focused
Filed Under Designer Sunglasses, Eyewear Knowledge | View Comments
For the fashion fanatic, staying focused is easy, but this isn’t always the case for us weekend fashion warriors who hunt for Prada sunglasses on sale. Here are a few tips on staying focused and informed.
Follow Hollywood’s biggest events. While magazines like US Weekly cover the best and worst of each event, they are missing the point. Real fashion focused folks know that the real analysis is on finding trends in what the bulk of Hollywood’s elite are wearing. Don’t rely on magazines that offer more analysis than imagery, you want to make these choices for yourself!
Subscribe to fashion blogs. Fashion blogs that cover specific items of clothing are the best for really staying on top of fashion trends. This eyewear blog is one of the top in terms of identifying and analyzing eyewear trends. Find similar blogs for other accessories and subscribe to them all.
Stalk the shops. Everyone knows when a trend has died, keep an eye out at popular shops with huge revenue behind them like Old Navy and Abercrombie & Fitch. When they start putting all of a similar item on sale you can bet that the item won’t be returning next season.
Follow the big four. While many people have their own favorite stars to follow, a few fashionable celebs with designer street credit are Johnny Depp, Sara Jessica Parker, Beyonce and Kanye West. Follow the fashion trends on these four and you have tapped into Hollywood’s pulse.
Follow this advice and soon, young grasshopper, you’ll be on the road to being your own fashion critic.

Goodbye, Brittany Murphy
Filed Under Celebrity Watch, Designer Sunglasses | View Comments
Britney Murphy was a beacon of light in the film industry both for her peppy upbeat personality and her dedication to realistic cinema. Her sense of fashion goes unrivaled in Hollywood as a mixture of a throw-back to 1950s glamour and modern street sense. She could pair Ray Ban Wayfarers with a retro business suit and make it look coordinated and fresh, no small feat.
Britney Murphy will be sorely missed. Her sudden death on December 20th from apparent cardiac arrest shocked a nation in the middle of the holiday season. The cause of death, though called natural by doctors at the Cedars-Sanai Medical Center, is under review as we await toxicology reports. Murphy was buried on Christmas Eve at Forrest Lawn Hollywood Hills, a far cry from her birthplace in Atlanta, Georgia.
Though she is gone, Murphy continues to act as a role model to inspiring young actresses. Murphy and her mother moved to California so she could pursue her acting dream. Her charm and unique look made landing roles relatively easy at an early age, and her wit allowed her to land a major breakthrough role in Clueless. Her charm was never-ending, and Murphy’s last film Abandoned, will be released this year.
Her sense of fashion continues to be un-replicable and defies trends, norms and fads to be purely Murphy. With Dior accessories and sunglasses she would pair a low-key sundress with flip flops- a whole new way to wear Dior, and Murphy was like that with everything in life. She played down the seriousness of everything and just had fun. She will be missed.

The Best of 2009 Fashion Review
Filed Under Designer Sunglasses | View Comments
With 2009 coming to a close, let’s take a moment to pay homage to the eyewear fashion trends that made the year’s hot list. From Dior to Ray Ban Wayfarers, 2009 was truly a fascinating year for fashion, flashbacks and futuristic flare.
Geek Chic – Geeky fashion was a hot look in 2009 with the rise of superstar Tina Fey, who made even the geekiest glasses look charming and hot. Meanwhile, Ugly Betty made larger-than-life antiquated fashion seem tasteful and cute.
Frameless Fashion — We also think the super sexy black framed Wayfarers with clear or no lenses was a shocking but pleasing trend in 2009 that we hope will continue in the new year. While this never really caught on in the mainstream fashion sense, it was popular in high class fashion circles and, of course, in Hollywood.
Rectangle and Business Professional – Sara Palin’s quick rise to the top in the vice-presidential run of late 2008 put her style of cubic glass and steel glasses in the forefront of female eyewear fashion. It was a surprising trend that made professional frameless and sleek glasses all the rage in offices across America, whether they were Palin fans or not.
Oversized Sunglasses – In the sunglasses realm, oversized frames continued to be popular in 2009, a flashback to the 1950’s, this style has long awed women and given them a sense of feeling like Jackie O or Madonna. We expect this trend to continue unabated for several season to come.
There you have it, folks, the biggest eyewear fashion trends and movements of 2009. Tune in next year to see what’s sure to be hot in 2010!

Lauren Conrad Sunglasses
Filed Under Designer Sunglasses | View Comments
Lauren Conrad, from The Hills, is known throughout Hollywood as a fashion icon, a rising star in reality TV and a hero to many a wealthy young lady hoping to debut on TV clad entirely in Prada. She was an MTV hit before graduating from high-school, and starred in her own spin off, The Hills, which features her career in fashion and her relationships with close friends. Having been on TV continuously for over five years and releasing two books, a clothing line and a fragrance, Lauren has stated that season 5 of The Hills will be her last as she dedicates more time to fashion.
Having guest starred as a judge on America’s Next Top Model, Lauren has asserted herself as someone in-the-known, fashion wise. Trends she has set or helped to enforce include a highlight on accessories like purses, shoes, sunglasses and jewelry. But most people remember her for her sunglasses. Here are the many shades she has in her wardrobe of eyewear:
Christian Dior 1 Glossy Black Sunglasses look stunning on the young fashion star (in image) as she goes about her daily tasks. They highlight the natural beauty of her hair while keeping her youthful and bright. Other eyewear designs the California icon has worn include a shocking choice by Emporio Armani, the 9426/S, which is an all black and metal design that is futuristic and sleek. A different look for our fashion-forward but usually tame icon. Like most young starlets she favors Ray Ban Wayfarers, hers are navy blue and look great with her blond hair. She also owns a classy pair of Chloe 2119 shades, that look amazing on her petite frame, and another Chloe model, the 2123, which is a bulkier, more square look for the round-faced beauty.
