Happy Birthday Obama, But We Want the Young You

August 4th was Predient Barak Obama’s birthday. What better gift that to revamp his popularity polls with a new and exciting infusion of fashion from Ray Ban and Versace. During his candidacy for President, Obama was loved and admired for his down-to-earther persona. Someone who went trick or treating in Ray Bans and demin jeans with his daughter. Since stepping into the oval office Obama has shed some of the clothing items that made him an icon of relatability to the American people.

Mr. President, for your birthday was suggest you slap back on those Ray Bans that made such a splash on the campaign trail, and don the Nike gear that led Americans across the nation to see you as a health conscious and determined indevidual. We miss the Obama that spent all of his time winning our hearts. Now we have an Obama with greying hair, a habit for overusing teleprompters and for making non racial issued racial. Lets get back to the basics, the Obama who promised transparancy and modernization with a hip attitude that landed him on the cover of multiple magazines in designer eyewear and clothing, and on talk shoes as a lovable and recognizable figure.

What better time to embrance the public once again than on your birthday, as you grow a bit older (and wiser) to the ways of the world. Without the people, a president is not much more than a gloomy figure in the white house. Our perscription: Ray Ban’s, denim, a little rock and roll music and a next-door neighbor can-do attitude.

Jon and Kate Plus 8 Star Sunglasses

Kate, ever the fashionable mom, started the season of Jon and Kate Plus 8 in true style with oversized Versace sunglasses and form-fitting jeans with heels. For a mother of eight, we think she looks fantastic! Since Jon and Kate’s infamous split earlier this year, the show has gone on to unprecedented success as a very brave single mother takes on the role of lead parent of her twins and sextuplets, making the gang of 10 now a gang of 9. In a role many Americans can relate to, the show now follows the children as they spend time with both parents separately, a situation a full 50% of Americans can relate to.

We think Kate would look amazing in Gucci and Dior eyewear. These fashionable designer brands suit her personality, as well as her conservative yet trendy fashion sense. With traditional flares like fitted denim with heels and a fitted corduroy jacket, Kate is poised to really take her sense of fashion to the next level if she would accessorize her already well-developed wardrobe with designer sprinkles like the new Prada sunglasses line and bags.

For her little tikes, Kate should ensure they have the eyewear they need to stay protected, chic and stylish. Buying designer eyewear for 8 children would be expensive, but would also teach the children that their health comes first.

The world of high-class fashion and intriguing creativity is overlapped by the world of music and acting, and often the line becomes blurred. Celebrities like Britney Spears have their own, self named sunglasses lines in addition to supporting or modeling for other designer brands. The following stars all have their own sunglasses fashion lines: Donald Trump, Sophia Loren, JLO, Cheryl Tiegs, Diahann Carroll, Randy Jackson, Thalia, Sting, Jerry Garcia, Lauren Hutton, Kathy Ireland, Shari Belafonte, George Burns and Linda Evens.

Randy Jackson, the bassist for Journey, went on to become even more well-known for his role as a judge on the hit TV show American Idol. Jackson was known for his flashy clothing and interesting eyewear while on American Idol; in the most recent season he appeared at the finale in an oversized bowtie and a classy pair of eyewear from his own label.

The Britney Spears sunglasses line has been less popular in the designer realm, but still sells among teenagers and young adults. Her perfumes, however, have become an international sensation, and continue to outsell some designer brands.

Ever the entrepreneur, Donald Trump has entered the eyewear market with his own line of sunglasses, perhaps he will invent a pair of sunglasses that help hold his toupee in place! We’re not sure, exactly, what qualified him to be in the fashion industry other than immense amounts of wealth and the can-fire attitude that is needed in the world of fashion where, as Heidi Klum would say, “One day you’re in, the next you’re out.”

American Idol Fashion

us0817.JPGBy now you’ve probably heard that Kris Allen beat out professional singer Adam Lambert in the finale of Season 8 on American Idol. You also know by now that Kris Allen is a down-to-earth Ray Ban kind of guy while Adam Lambert is an in-your-face Police shades kind of performer. Let’s take a look at the drastic fashion differences these two idols presented throughout the season.

Adam Lambert, the runner up this season, was a rocker with not-so-subtle gothic undertones. His performance on stage with Kiss and Queen proved he was at home with the gods of music history, as well as able to rewrite the best in the business, as he did with Johnny Cash’s ‘Ring of Fire’ remake. Perhaps what kept Adam from being the American Idol was his fashion sense, a look that hardly applies to the average American. While Police eyewear are cool, they are a rough edge that takes strong features and a masculine wardrobe to pull off. Adam has neither of those, so the sunglasses look drastic and a bit oversized on his gentle features. He should have catered a bit more to the American mainstream in order to steal the limelight that was most likely his to keep.

Meanwhile, the winner of American Idol was an underdog contestant with a so-so voice but a golden heart and an all-American look. His Ray Bans fit the torn jeans and black leather jacket that exemplified his small-town persona. He appealed to Americans everywhere who saw him as literally a boy next door standing up to the practiced and precise musical talents of Adam.

Don’t Use Urine for Eye Drops, Doctor Warns

Doctors in South Africa are warning people not to use urine as an eye drop to relieve dry eye caused from constant sand and dust storms. Common folk remedies encourage many around the globe to use urine (their own, naturally) dropped into the eye to ward of disease and promote natural health and wellness. Local healers often prescribe urine drops to patients suffering from ailments as mild as sun scorching and dry-eye. Even naturopaths in the US have practiced urine eye drops in the past.

But using urine for dry-eye may have an unwanted side effect—blindness. Urine can transmit sexually transmitted diseases mutated to live in the eye, like gonococcal conjunctivitis, which attackes the cornea (the eye’s clear top coating) causing scarring or clouding which can lead to blindness in areas without access to eye doctors. Doctors are encouraging healers around the world to discourage urine eye drops and to promote saline based solutions. According to some scientists spit is a much better lubricant for dry-eye than urine, and is less likely to spread the STD to your eyes. The best saline solutions are available online, as are contacts and eyewear.

STDs can easily spread around a patient’s body, with the eye and mouth the most common secondary infection area. Many patients report no prior awareness of such ailments as eye herpes or gonorrhea of the eye- both of which can lead to permanent vision damage. Constant washing of the hands as well as good eye and mouth hygiene can prevent the spread of a STD, though medical advice should be sought as soon as symptoms of the initial disease appear. To promote good eye health, ensure you have the best in eye care, eyewear and eye lubricants.

Calvin Klein to Release USB Sunglasses

us0807.JPGCalvin Klein, a top designer name in the eyewear industry, has announced plans to release the very first designer USB pair of sunglasses. The frames, which have a classic Wayfarer look, have a wide temple bar with a modern design from which the USB detaches on the right side for ease of transport. You’ll never forget your USB again! The USB flash drive will have 4GB of data storage, ideal for those who are constantly transporting files via USB between home and work, or from their home computer to their music devices in the car or office.

The design will be available in stores in October and will retain for around $199.

In recent years, innovations in eyewear have spurred such concepts as sunglasses with video camera receivers in the lenses (as seen in True Lies). A common concept more recently is sunglasses and eyewear equipped with Bluetooth receivers that angle at the ear and mouth for hands-free communication while driving. Many state laws in the US make talking on a hand-held cell-phone while driving illegal.

Sunglasses with sensors on the back of the temple bars (behind the ear) send a warning light flashing in your right or left lens, alerting you to movement directly behind your head. This is helpful for people in non-professional sports for optimal performance, or for runners to alert them that someone is about to pass them. While there will likely be controversy over the use of performance-enhancing eyewear, the possibilities to inspire curiosity.
