Jack Bauer Eyewear
Filed Under Brand Wave, Celebrity Watch, Eyewear Knowledge, Designer Sunglasses | Leave a Comment
“If you wake up in the morning, it’s because Jack Bauer spared your life.” Want to be as intimidating as TVs biggest badass, then gear up with Ray Ban Aviators – only the best for TVs scariest rouge agent.
“Jack Bauer’s favorite color is severe terror alert red. His second favorite color is violet, but just because it sounds like violent.” So, any true Bauer fan will know that Bauer’s hidden accessories are all red. Even his Ray Ban’s have a red tint to them. Stock up on red undies, wallet and eyewear for true fanfare. Since Bauer likes Ray Bans, don’t deviate from the outfit he set out, pick up a pair of Aviators in red tinted lenses, which help increase contrast in the field. In fact, snipers use red and yellow tinted glasses to help their accuracy, not that Bauer needs the help.
This king of TV drama repetitively has really rough 24hour segments followed by years of isolation and grief. Yet, despite all attempts to silence the hero, Jack Bauer cannot be killed. It is said that when a bullet makes impact with Bauer, it is obliterated on impact. Up your scare factor with ex military gear that looks worn and used. Layer everything over a dress shirt in case you need to meet with the President, which, if you are like Jack Bauer, you will do before 8am. Finally, make sure you shower regularly because you never know when you will be infected with a deadly virus and need to strip down in front of a lady CDC agent. To truly prepare for a Jack Bauer day, make sure you have shoes that can deal with running, jumping, falling and sometimes flying and make sure your eyewear is Ray Ban.

Sunglasses Fashion Trends of 2009
Filed Under Brand Wave, Fun with Eyewear, Eyewear Knowledge, Designer Sunglasses | Leave a Comment
As Heidi Klum of Project Runway often says, “One day you’re in, and the next you’re out.” In eyewear fashion that stands true. While some fashion trends can stand the test of time, like Ray Ban aviators, others are a flash in the pan. Here are the designs that are in this season.
Larger-than-life designs are at the top of the eyewear trend list for 2009. The larger the lenses the better the fashion, of late. The idea is to get, as close as possible, to the anime look made popular in Japan. These large sunglasses stimulate the bulging eyes of the anime dolls, and their enormous size decreases the size of the nose and mouth, proportionally, and elongates the chin to give a triangle look drawing focus to the eyes.
Bold colors are also in high demand this season with reds and bright yellows as the favorites. Make a splash with your large eyewear by buying red or yellow, or sticking to the safer black or white designs. Accessories outside of eyewear are also feeling this trend as bags, shoes and jewelry in bold colors emerged in the Milan fashion week.
Simplicity is key this season, steer clear of intricate designs or gold, silver or gemstone inlays. What is hot right now is clean lines in bold colors. This trend puts plastic above metal frames. Avoid frilly designs and stick to clean, clear and simple lay outs that favor boldness over subtlety.
Gradient lenses are back in style, a look made famous by Ray Ban and Dior. Gradient lenses in any color add to the anime look but also add the tinted protection and coverage the wearer needs.

Dior versus Versace Sunglasses
Filed Under Brand Wave, Fun with Eyewear, Eyewear Knowledge, Designer Sunglasses | Leave a Comment
The debate rages on– which design house has the most creative and fashion-forward sunglasses, Christian Dior or Versace? Let’s take a look at the two mega centers of modern fashion and let you decide who the better designer may be.
Christian Dior, a designer from France who made the big time in the 1920’s, founded the Christian Dior brand bearing his name, a design house that has stayed alive and well since its inception nearly 70 years ago. Dior is known for its boldness and glamour, and for its catchy advertisements that leave you lusting for more. In popular culture, Dior skyrocketed when celebs in Hollywood began donning Dior sunglasses en masse. The gradient tinted lenses and intricate frames draw attention to the natural beauty of one’s face while enhancing it with subtle and creative fashion twists.
Versace was founded in Italy by Gianni Versace in 1978, an empire now run by his daughter Donatella and epitomizing the highest reaches of European fashion. While Donatella may get strange glances for her under-the-weather look, the fashion house continually churns out top-notch designs with creative flare that fans can’t get enough of. Across Europe, Versace reigns supreme. Popular for its antiquated and royal feel, Versace has done what many other fashion designers can only dream of- they have reached a place where their designs can stray away from the bold and blunt and into the intricate and detailed work of the artist. Their logo, an intricate circular design, is one of the most elaborate in the fashion community, and shows the distinction between this and other designers. In eyewear, Versace manages to break new ground on an accessory that some say has already peaked.
Which is the better designer? – You decide.

The Best Eyewear for the All-American Businessman
Filed Under Brand Wave, Fun with Eyewear, Eyewear Knowledge, Designer Eyeglasses | 1 Comment
For the American businessperson, first impressions mean everything and lasting charm the edge that helps you get ahead. A thousand dollar suit and Armani eyewear may impress initially, but can hardly be expected to have lasting implications for your career. People want to do business with someone they trust, but just as importantly, they want to like that person. Find a charming way to stay professional and fashionable while staying true to your personality and industry. If you are a baseball fan, for example, don’t be too shy to let that passion shine through. Wear a baseball cap when outdoors or keep your Bear’s wallet instead of a shiny leather Versace. While high fashion and the business world go hand in hand, so too does character—let yours shine through accessories that are all-American and as bold and fresh as you are.
For the all-American businessman the best eyewear for the big leagues is undoubtedly Ray Ban. This all-American design exudes the American dream, as well as confidence and calculated charm. Even the president has a pair of Ray Bans, and every celebrity in Hollywood has a pair of Aviators of Wayfarers on hand.
Tom Ford sunglasses are another all-American brand. These were wildly popular in the 80s with the “Whose that behind those Tom Fords?” campaign that had every celebrity in California itching to participate. For the executive, these may offer a more professional-looking design than Ray Bans, which are often casual and a bit laid back for business.
For indoor eyewear, Ralph Lauren is tops because of its non-pretentious designs and its highly respected name in American fashion. With clean lines, clear frames and cutting-edge fashion, these affordable frames are a great way to stay fashion forward in the workplace.

Known as the King of Pop and guru of Ray Ban fashion, as well as the first African American to bridge the gap between black and white music to a nation-wide and indeed universal sound, Michael Jackson was the top pop icon of the late 20th century. His 1982 album Thriller remains the best-selling album of all time, with songs like Billy-Jean, Bad, and Off the Wall close behind. Tragically, Michel Jackson died on the 25th of June, leaving a legacy of amazing music, innovative fashion and unparalleled intrigue.
Michael Jackson had a style all his own, with a larger-than-life image Jackson sought to make himself a bridge between pop and modernity through fashion and his always exotic music videos. Spending thousands on each video and hundreds on each costume, Jackson became known for his spending just as much as for his amazing earning potential. A perfectionist at heart, he wanted each video to tell a story, and used fashion to underline his messages.
Ray Ban Aviators were his favorite brand of sunglasses in later life, while in his youth he favored Ray Ban Wayfarers. Both designs, with pitch black lenses and lightweight frames, helped Jackson avoid the light that caused his fragile skin irritation. Meanwhile, their lightweight frames were necessary because his nose, after several rhinoplasty surgeries, could not withstand weight. Jackson gave Ray Ban a whole new image as cool for all communities and at the center of the music industry. Musicians today still pay homage to the fashion trend he started by wearing Ray Bans on and off stage.

Eyewear in Ugly Betty
Filed Under Fun with Eyewear, Designer Sunglasses, Designer Eyeglasses | Leave a Comment
Working at Mode, the leading fashion magazine sponsored by the greats of fashion like Versace, does not mean Miss Betty Swarez, the main character in “Ugly Betty” has to change her look. Throughout the series, Betty wears bold fuchsia frames with sharp angles and thick framing that is overly small for her large eyes. Here is why those frames, albeit adorable, do not work for Miss Swarez. Perhaps these tips will help you pick out the perfect glasses for you.
For starters, her glasses are the wrong color for her skin tone. Rich-toned women should wear natural shades that enhance the beauty of their skin rather than pull attention away from it. With Betty’s beautiful skin and dark hair the best glasses for her would have been simple gold frames to bring out the copper tones in her skin and highlight the richness of her black hair.
Startlingly, they are also the wrong shape for her face. With a prominent jaw, plump nose and narrow, tiny forehead, Betty should be using her eyewear to widen and enlarge the top half of her head to gain proportional balance. She should have chosen glasses that have minimal weight, perhaps thin metal frames, but with an intricate design, perhaps Dior, on the front frame to draw attention upward.
A third problem with Betty’s eyewear is that they are the wrong size. They are too small for her head and the frames around the lenses are so tiny that you cannot see her whole eye through the frame. Betty has large beautiful eyes, and should not hide them behind tiny frames.
Finally, the eyewear Betty wears has all the wrong angles. Notice how they shoot up on the outer edges and have sharp angular lines near her nose? These detract from the natural softness of Betty’s face and also from the gentle curves of her jaw line that could serve to give her a shockingly pretty face.
